Darcie Little Badger is an Apache Writer and Creative who has written award-winning books Elatsoe and Shein Linde. After our CDI book club read Elatsoe in November, we are bringing Darcie to campus to lead a writing workshop for students to explore the academic and creative merits of writing about identity. This writing workshop will consist of studying brief texts from the lens of identity, interspersed with generative prompts for our students to begin to write their own stories across genre.
This workshop aims to strengthen students’ ability to:
- Articulate and express what their identity means to them
- Engage in dialogue about the various interpretations of literature across genres.
- Learn from a professional how to ethically write about identities one does not possess through the lens of cultural appreciation.
