Cross-Cultural Connections and Spectrum are bringing in Dr. Jermisha Frazier to lead a poetry workshop highlighting the writing of prominent Black, queer women. Focusing on the intersection of three identities, how they come together to create change, visibility, and community, has impacted our academics and activism for generations. We will be discussing brief examples of Black, queer writing of women, as well as giving students the opportunity to write about their own identities and gain inspiration from the content and craft elements utilized by our featured poets and poems.
This workshop aims to strengthen students’ ability to:
- Articulate and express what their identity means to them .
- Engage in dialogue about the various interpretations of literature across intersecting identities.
- Learn from a professional how to ethically write about identities one does not possess through the lens of cultural appreciation.
